Alrighty, clearly I spent too much time one night doing this but the payoff is fun! I created a bunch of custom clothes in Animal Crossing New Leaf that you can wear. You just need to scan these in with your 3DS and they will appear in your designs so you can wear them. The trick is to unlock this functionality you have to have the Able Sisters store open, and then on ten consecutive days you have to speak with the fox at the sewing machine. She won't want to talk to you for the first few days; then she gets chatty; and eventually she lets you use her sewing machine - which is how you scan and create QR codes to share with friends!
So if you want to wear these clothes in your game, start talking to the crabby seamstress Able Sister.
